I'm very sad to hear about Echo's death. She was a wonderful woman and one of my mother's best friends, going all the way back to Fern Hill days. I always thought Echo could do anything. She was a great organizer for UMW events and other organizations, and a very "crafty" person. I remember especially her upbeat spirit. Lovingly, Glenna

Although we hadn't known Echo for very long, we felt so privileged to meet her through St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Our previous acquaintance had been through her daughter, Barbara, and granddaughter, Echo.
We share your grief in your loss. We've made a donation to St. Andrews UMC in her memory.
Thank you for the potted flowers at her memorial service. We've shared one with Jewel Beach, who was unable to attend the service due to recent surgery.
Blessings to you and yours,
Mardel and Roger

I was touched by Echo's kindness and generosity. When she heard through her long-time friend Mabel Suomela (my grandmother) that I was living in Olympia, she invited me to her home and events at the Lacey Land Yacht Harbor. She was always gracious, exuberant, and thoughtful. She often phoned to check in on me and wish me God's blessings. She was extremely dear to my grandmother and will be very much missed by us all. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

A great light has left us, and I am so sorry to say goodbye. Echo was a wonderful neighbor, friend for Mom and all of us. Those were the golden years...when the Essens lived next door to the Strobels. Echo always had 25 things (at least) going on at once. Yet she could focus on the people she was with. I'm so thankful she was able to come to Anna's graduation party this past May. She was so full of life, so present. I'll always remember her that way. May these days of final goodbyes to your dear Mother, grandmother, great grandmother bring you many blessings and fill you with thankfulness for all she was for you and all of us.

From: Edie Apgar: I will always treasure the memories of Eccho's goodness, her being a special friend and neighbor, sharing the bounty of her garden with so many, and arranging her flowers for our community hall activities for years. What a role model!

Echo was a dear neighbor of ours on 40th and Fawcett in Tacoma. Her home was my second home. I would often walk in without knocking, usually through the back door. Echo kept such a beautiful yard and garden. It was such a pleasure to look over our fence into their back yard. I was raised with her three children, Fred, Barbara and Allen. My heart goes out to you all. What a great mother you had! Because I lived in Olympia, I would occassionally pick Echo up or drop something off in these last few years. She would often call to chat and report on her family and inquire about mine and all my sisters. I spoke with her a few days before her passing and the first thing out of her mouth was about the wonderful party she attended at my sister Carol's home for her youngest daughter's college graduation last May. I'm amazed how she recalled that but also remember how grateful she always was for kindnesses. I will miss Echo. She'll always be in my heart along with all those sweet memories.

We have traveled many miles together. I am thinking about our move to Tegner Road, our winter in Iowa, our summers working in the cannery and of enjoying the World's Fair in SF. These are just a few of the many good times we shared. I'm still making fruit cake from your recipe. Thanks, Echo Pauline, for the wonderful times we've had together with our familes. We have shared many moments that I will cherish, always. Until we meet again, love from your sister, Clara Belle and Leigh

Auntie Echo was always willing to help out and decorate, or bake for family ocassions. We met often in Turlock, and she would come prepared with bags of goods for whatever the ocassion was. It seemed like she was always pulling something out of her "hat" to share with others. She was a dear woman, and a great aunt to me. She is now resting in the clouds above, with her darling angels. She lived a long prosperous life.
