Obituary of David Ensberg

David Norman Ensberg David Norman Ensberg, 73, passed away on Monday, Dec. 8, at 5:00 p.m. from complications caused by Parkinson’s Disease. Born Feb. 4, 1935, in Beresford, SD, David spent most of his early years in Spokane. After graduating from North Central, he earned a BA at PLU before completing a BS in teaching in 1958 at the U. of Minn. In 1964 he received his M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology and in 1970 earned his principal credentials. David completed his doctorate in Educational Leadership at Seattle University in 1984. David began his career in 1958, teaching history and English at Jefferson Middle School. After 27 years as a teacher, counselor and vice principal in the Olympia District, he retired in 1986 to work as a mental health therapist for Maschhoff, Barr and Associates, an employee assistance program. During those years he conducted team building training and crisis management services to businesses, industries and public agencies. He worked as a feedback specialist for leadership training organizations including Morton Thiokol in Utah, the US Forest Service, and military officers in Soule, Korea. In 1995 he moved his office to his home and continued his counseling and consulting practice until early 2000. David is survived by Donna, his wife of 30 years, his children Kristine Paeth (Brian), Erik (Qixia), Susan Hood (John); seven grandchildren, Sawyer and Savannah Paeth; Erikka, Jake and Ting Ensberg; Ashley and Lawton Hood. Also surviving are brothers Stuart and Earl Ensberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin O. and Esther A. Ensberg and sister Mary Reese. A celebration of David’s life will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Masonic Center, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater.
