Obituary of Albert J. Engel

Rev. Albert J. “Pete” Engel, 89, a resident of Olympia for the last 6 months, died at Puget Sound HealthCare Center on September 18, 2006. He was born August 21, 1917 in Washita County, Oklahoma to Fred A. and Elizabeth (Penner) Engel. He received his BA in Education from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma in 1947. He went on to graduate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Oklahoma. Albert had served in the Navy during WWII. On May 26, 1946 he married Eileen Marie Hoyt. They had lived in Berlin, Oklahoma from 1951-1953, Burlington, Washington from 1953-1958; Aberdeen, Washington from 1958-2002; St. George, Utah from 2002-2005 and Olympia from 2005. While in Aberdeen Albert had been the Pastor for Aberdeen Avenue Baptist Church from 1958 to 1982, he had also been the Pastor for First Baptist Church of Oakville for 8 years. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist of St. George and he enjoyed baseball, carpentry, fishing and clam digging. Albert is survived by his wife, Eileen Marie of Olympia; two daughters, Rebecca Peters of St. George, Utah and her children, Jason Peters of Quinault, Tonya Peters of Las Vegas, Caleb Peters and Jared Peters both of St. George, Utah; Susan Kopp of Olympia and her daughter, Caitlyn Kopp of Olympia; one great-grandchild; one brother, Ervin Engel of Arkansas and four sisters, Dora and Edna both of Clinton, Oklahoma, Reva of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Elsie of Albany, Oregon. Two brothers, Elmer and Burton Engel both preceded him in death.
