Obituary of Eileen Engel

Eileen Engel On April 29, 2009, Eileen Engel went home to be with our Lord, in heaven. She was born April 12, 1920 in Custer City, Oklahoma to Zandren (Masquelier) Hoyt and Ernest R. Hoyt. Eileen attended school in Custer City, Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelors degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She then began her teaching career. On May 26, 1946, she married Albert John “Pete” Engel and became a pastor’s wife. They lived in Berlin, Oklahoma from 1951-1953. They came to Washington in 1953 and resided in Burlington, Washington from 1953-1958, Aberdeen, Washington from 1958 – 2002, St. George, Utah from 2002-2005 and Olympia, Washington in 2005. Eileen began her teaching career in Texas and Oklahoma. Upon moving to Aberdeen, she taught at McDermoth, Alexander Young, Robert Gray and A.J. West Elementary School. She taught at A.J. West until her retirement. She was a member of McKenzie Road Baptist Church and she enjoyed being with her church family, reading her bible, gardening and her grandchildren. Eileen is survived by her two daughters, Susan Kopp of Olympia and granddaughter Caitlyn Kopp also of Olympia, Rebecca “Becki” Peters of San Diego, California and her six children; Caleb Peters and Jared & Crystal Peters, all of San Diego, Tonya Peters of Salt Lake City, Utah; Jason Peters of Raymond, Washington; David Schimelpfenig of Idaho; Mike Hansen of Aberdeen, Washington, and one great grandchild Austin and his mother Coral Peters of Raymond, Washington. She is also survived by two sisters, Billie Moore-Proctor of Bakersfield, California and Betty Lane of Fort Worth, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Pete Engel; two brothers, Robert Hoyt and Henry Hoyt; two sisters, Baby Hoyt and Velma Cunningham.
