Obituary of Edith Lanora Eayrs

Edith Lanora (Watson) Eayrs Born January 1, 1923 at home in Lacey, Washington to Callie Beatrice (McKinney) and James Marvin Watson. She passed away January 12, 2008 at the Hampton Alzheimer Care Center in Tumwater, Washington. Edith attended Lacey Elementary School and graduated from Olympia High School in 1940. She worked at the Bremerton Naval Shipyard where she met her husband, Donald. Edie and Don were married in 1946 and moved to Minnesota. The lived in Minnesota for seven years where their eldest three children were born. Later they moved to the Springfield, Oregon area where their youngest child was born. In 1962 they moved to Burbank, Washington where they had an alfalfa farm. Upon retiring they sold their farm and moved to Lacey. Throughout the years Edie and other relatives traveled to Hawaii, Washington, D.C., Mexico, Great Britain, Belize, Guatemala, took a cruise to Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Turkey. Edith was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lacey. She loved to garden, do crossword puzzles, read the newspaper and watch Jeopardy. She was very knowledgeable about birds and plants, especially flowers and trees. Edie loved her immediate and extended family and was always ready to cook a meal for their visits. She was generous and donated to many charities. She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Edie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and siblings, Irma Mitchell, Jack Watson, Archie Watson and Clarysse Carriere. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Humphrey; brothers-in-law, Allan Humphrey and Stewart Eayrs; sisters-in-law, Ruth Eayrs and Gloria Watson; her children, Merrill and Leigh Eayrs, Sharon and Adair Shearer, Richard Eayrs, Diane Eayrs-Mendoza and Joseph Mendoza; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or an Alzheimer research association.
