I remember Ken as a gracious host and loving father. He always had an amusing story to tell and a recommendation for a good book to read. I will miss him.

I was very surprised and saddened to hear of Ken's dying (sent xmas card to Lacey address on this date, 1 Dec 06, not being aware of his death). We left Olympia on 17 Oct 06.
All that knew Ken will remember him as a man with a fine sense of humor and an avid reader, most of which he seemed to remember.
After our war with Mexico of 1848 (?),Theodore O'Hara wrote a poem dedicated to the dead U.S. Soldiers, part of which goes:
The muffled drums sad roll has beat the soldiers' last tatoo.
No more, on lifes' parade shall meet, that brave and fallen few.
On fames eternal camping ground their silent tents are spread,
And glory guards with solemn rounds, the bivouac of the dead.
I shall remember Ken, a fellow West Virginian, as another brave soldier I am proud to have known.

We cherish Ken's memory and honor his life. The Kaiser was one of a kind; a great hero, a loving father, and one hell of a human.

His amazing sense of humor and dry wit...his positive outlook on the world was something I came to appreciate through his daughter, Kris', eyes. She would tell me wonderful stories about him or just small anecdotes that made me love him. I will especially always love you, Ken, for bringing my best friend, Krissey, into this world. The world will miss you, but you live on through her spirit!

I was acquainted with your father through his inspecting work. I have not seen him for many years now, but I remember what an honest, hard-working man he was. My sympathy is with your family.

I am so touched by the strong and loving and "can-do" spirit of Ken, the great humor, the generous heart, the courage (and silly songs of course). And I see all these qualities in my friend, his daughter, Kris. I am so glad to have spent lovely time with him. I'm sending prayers and blessings of comfort to the whole family.

"The Kaiser" was truly a one of a kind man who couldn't but help fill any room he was in with his absolute joy of life. I'll forever think of your dad as he was telling his "Weedie Vines" story with tears of laugher rolling down his cheek. It was my pleasure to have known him.

My father, also a retired Major from the Army, was born in 1924 and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam (two tours). I, too, was born at Madigan. I know from my own experience that your father was a tremendous man. I just wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
