Obituary of Robert Dyberg

Col. Robert Dyberg, USAF Ret. Colonel Robert Dyberg, USAF Ret., passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 in Olympia, Washington. Robert was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the son of Martin and Nora Dyberg. He married Jennette Reul in 1946 and they were married for 65 years. Robert was a boat builder, inventor and entrepreneur. He served as a pilot in the Air Force for 30 years before retiring at the age of 49. While in the Air Force, he flew all over the world in many different types of aircraft. He served in World War II, the Berlin Airlift, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Of all his military assignments, his tours with the Air Rescue Service were his passion. “That Others May Live” was their motto and they were responsible for saving thousands of people’s lives. As commander of the 36th Air Rescue Squadron in Tachikawa, Japan, Robert helped to establish the Air Rescue Service in Vietnam at the start of the war. He was also founder of the Air Rescue Association and, with his wife Jennette, planned and organized many of the Air Rescue Reunions. Robert was so proud of his wife, Jennette, who was his biggest supporter, caretaker and loving nurturer of their family. He will always be remembered for his vibrant and engaging smile, his heartfelt affection for everyone he met, and his endless love for his family. Robert is survived by his wife, Jennette; son, Mike and wife Connie; daughter, Dyan; granddaughters, Brienna and Kym; sister, Beverly Saftig of Kenosha, Wisconsin; relatives of the Alfred and Anna Reul family of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; and a countless number of friends.
