Obituary of Russell Eugene Dunn

No visitation Russell Eugene Dunn Russell Eugene Dunn passed away peacefully at Capital Medical Center on the morning of September 8, 2007, with his loving wife and son by his side. He was 60 years of age. Russell was born on October 30, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Lawrence and Helen Dunn. He was the youngest of five children. Russell graduated from Midwest City High School in 1964. After graduation he proudly served in the US Air Force until 1971 when he began working for the US Department of Defense at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Russell retired in 1993 from the Oklahoma City Air Force Logistics Center. During a business trip to the Seattle area in November of 1992, Russell met his future wife Karen. They married on October 30, 1993 and made Olympia their home after his retirement from civil service. In 1994 Russell’s son Matthew moved to Olympia from Oklahoma. Matthew and Russ shared a special bond and great love of music. Russ was a proud father and loving husband and his passing has left us deeply saddened. Russell developed many close friendships in recent years. Those friends became dear to his heart and have been an enormous source of love and support to his wife and son during this time of sadness and loss. Russ had a particularly special place in his heart for our friends; Tracy & Steve Miller, Karel & Doug Schloe, Jackie & Bill Gansberg, Karen & Alan Anderson, Dan Ruden, and Caprice & Mike Davis. Many will hold Russell’s memory close and his gentle spirit will be with us always. Russ was a member and past administrator of the Olympia Moose Lodge in Lacey, Washington. He enjoyed bowling but his true passion was the game of golf. He was extremely proud of making a hole in one in 1987 while playing a course in Oklahoma City. Russell was blessed with the talent of singing and loved to share his voice with all that would listen. His smooth, tenor voice lifted many spirits and we will never forget him singing “My Way” as he truly did live his life his way. Russell is survived by his loving wife Karen; son Matthew; sisters Anita Kutej and Mary Freeman of Oklahoma City; brothers Bruce (Pat) of Deland, Florida and Darrell (Betty) of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He also leaves behind many close and dear friends that were just like family to him. A memorial service to celebrate Russell’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2007, at Mills & Mills Memorial Park in Tumwater.
