Obituary of Benny Dotson

Benny Dotson passed away peacefully, in his sleep, from Congestive Heart Failure, at Mother Joseph’s rehabilitation center in Olympia, Washington, on January 30, 2010. He was born on October 9, 1932, in Gordon, Nebraska.He leaves behind his beloved wife Elsie, his children, grandchildren, sisters, sister-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews, many friends, and of course his fellow brothers and sisters in the Marine Corps and Marine Corps League. He was a lifetime resident of Gray’s Harbor and Grayland, where he worked and retired from the Department of Fisheries. He was an important member of Ocean Spray, and a respected Cranberry bog owner. Benny was a devoted and decorated Marine, who fought in the Korean War, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He was in the Marine Corps Reserves for six years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, where he was the National District Commander. He was also a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, where he earned the rank of National Vice Commandant, N.W. Division. He was later voted in by his peers as Honorary Past National Commandant. Benny had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid student of Native American history and heritage, American history, antiques and collectables.
