Obituary of Robert Lloyd Deffinbaugh

Robert Lloyd Deffinbaugh, 89, a resident of Shelton since 1926, died on May 9, 2007 at his daughter's home in Olympia. He was born January 30, 1918 in Ryegate, Montana to Lloyd W. and Mary (Fargher) Deffinbaugh. He graduated from Irene S. Reed High School in Shelton and received his AA degree from Olympic College. Robert began his military service in the Navy in 1939 during World War II. He served in the British Samoa-South Pacific and received the Good Conduct Medal. He then served as a Chief Pharmacist Mate in the Marines in San Diego being discharged in 1943. In 1950 he married Cora Irene Cole. She preceded him in death. He worked for the Rainier Pulp Mill; Simpson Timber Company and retired as a Correctional Officer for the Washington State Correction Center. Robert enjoyed reading, playing the harmonica, fishing, horses and leading the "Rhythm Aires" group. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, member and volunteer of the National Senior Services Corp, Moose Lodge 1684 in Shelton, AARP, National Association Civilian Conservation Corps, Lifetime Grange Member, 50 year Mason County Honored Voter and proud Democrat and the Sons of the Pioneers. Survivors include R. Bruce Deffinbaugh; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Curtis Heinold; brothers, Byron, Roy and Dave Deffinbaugh; sister, Marge Hunter. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Amy Burnett. Memorial contributions are suggested to Biola, Student Scholarships at the 1st Baptist Church in Shelton.
