Obituary of Gordon Craig

Gordon "Gordy" Craig Gordon "Gordy" Craig, 76, passed away on February 22, 2012 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington, after a brief illness. Gordy was born on August 28, 1935 to George "Bud" and Virginia Craig in Olympia. He attended South Bay Elementary, in the Grange hall, and graduated from Olympia High School in 1953. While working for Wildwood Grocery on Capitol Way, he met Jean (Crosby) Clintworth, whom he married on his 24th birthday in 1959. This way, he was certain never to forget his wedding anniversary. Gordy took over the family business, Eastside Plumbing and Heating, after the death of his father in 1962. He plumbed many a house and office building in the Olympia area before retiring in 2001. He was a die-hard NHRA drag racing fan. He was a member of the COGS racing club in his early years. He drove his AA/Gas dragster, the "White Tornado," to many trophy wins. He was also a member of the NHRA Certification Team for the Pacific Northwest Division during his racing years. Gordy enjoyed hunting, with a yearly trip to Curlew, Washington. Although not many deer were gotten in these hunting trips, the evenings were filled with many good meals at neighboring cabins. Lots of good times and lifelong friendships were made with fellow hunters. He also enjoyed salmon fishing, with occasional trips to Westport and Sekiu. After retiring from the plumbing business, Gordy and his wife, Jean, moved from their home on Lilly Road to the Hawks Prairie area, where he enjoyed the deer, squirrels and other wildlife that made daily visits to their backyard. Gordy is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Debbie; and stepson, Jim Clintworth (Gena) all from Olympia; stepdaughter, Carol (Tootie) Clintworth-Myhre of Big Fork, Montana; his sister, Nita Martin of Silverdale, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Virginia; his sister, Susan Asbach; and one niece and three nephews.
