Rick Courtney

Obituary of Rick Courtney

Rick "Twotone" Courtney Rick was born on October 24, 1961 in San Diego CA to Richard Earl and Frances Courtney. He left us on May 15, 2008 in Seattle WA with the same dignity and respect that he showed in life. Rick enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and spent 13 years as a mechanic. He was proud of his service to his country. During his military service he was stationed at Fort Carson CO, Fort Lewis WA, Ft. Riley KS and two tours in Germany which included Crailsheim and Kitzigen. He moved on to other careers including Cable Installer and Maintenance Supervisor. He was often heard saying “Jack of all trades, Master of none”. Rick was very caring and happiest when he was helping others. He was a man of few words because he believed that “actions spoke louder than words”. He never understood the concept “too busy”. He gave his time whether it was friend, family or a complete stranger and all he ever asked was pay it forward. Rick had many loves in his life, foremost was riding his motorcycle, but only when it was raining it seemed. While he wasn’t a “true” biker he was called “brother” by all that met him. His “brothers” always knew when it was raining; Rick would call and say “let’s ride”. He was a member of Abate and was concerned about motorcyclist rights. When he wasn’t working or riding he enjoyed woodworking with his scroll-saw, watching Smallville with Jennifer, picking on his son Ben, golfing with his brother-in-law Chris and harassing his mother-in-law about being the wicked witch of the south. Rick is survived by his wife of 20 years Susan, four children: Aloha Courtney (Roger) of KY, Richard Courtney II of KY, Benjamin Courtney and Jennifer Courtney of WA. He was blessed with six grandchildren: David Sean Resto, Krystal Haller, Gage Ellison, Eli Courtney, Tianna Hassler, Michael “Bean” Courtney; his mother Frances Courtney, two sisters, Karen, MaryAnn and his brother David; numerous nieces and nephews and more friends than he realized. He was preceded in death by his father Richard Earl Courtney. Rick touched many lives and will be missed and remembered by many. The family would love to have his family and friends sign the guest book and share their fondest memories and photos of Rick. A memorial fund has been set up at Venture Bank in Rick’s name. Ride it like you stole it Baby we miss you
