Obituary of Margaret Coppinger

No viewing Margaret "Peggy" Coppinger Margaret "Peggy" Woodward Coppinger passed away peacefully at home on July 25, 2007. Peggy was born in Portland, Oregon to Mr. and Mrs. Luard Woodward of Lake Oswego on April 23, 1920. Because of Luard's untimely death in 1922, Mrs. Woodward moved to Walla Walla, Washington and joined the staff of the Whitman College Conservatory of Music, where she remained until a second marriage to G.F. Richardson of New York City in 1948. After Peggy graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1937, she attended Whitman College and graduated with honors in 1941. Subsequently, she enlisted in the W.A.V.E.S. and spent World War II in intelligence work in Washington, D.C., where Peggy met her future husband, Thomas S. Coppinger, who was returning from service with the Royal Canadian Artillery in the European Theatre of Operations and going into France on D-Day. After the war, the Coppingers settled in Kennewick, Washington. Peggy was employed by the Kennewick Mid-Columbia Regional Library, and in 1965 completed her Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Washington. In 1967, the family moved to Lacey when work brought them to this area, Tom to the Madigan Army Hospital and Peggy to the Timberland Regional Library. Peggy retired as the Director of the Olympia Timberland Library in 1983 after Tom's death in 1981. She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Elmer) Levin, of Weston, Oregon; three daughters, Holly (Mick) Hill, of Lacey, Heidi (Mike) Warman, of Maxwell, California, and Heather (Greg) Syron, of Lewiston, Idaho; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007, at the Olympia Timberland Regional Library.
