Obituary of Harold Conner

No Visitation is planned HAROLD F. CONNER, US Navy (Ret) Harold Conner was born in Riverside, CA on May 18, 1923 to Robert and Mildred Conner. He passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2008 in Tumwater, WA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary (Greenwood) Conner who passed away on Sept. 11, 2000. Harold is survived by his three children, Mary (Conner) Edmonds of Fontana, CA., Janet (Conner) Andritch of Olympia, WA. and Harold Conner Jr of Young, AZ. He had 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Harold enlisted in the US Navy in December, 1941 and served as a Radioman aboard a Navy PBY amphibious plane in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. He retired from the Navy as a guided missile specialist aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway in 1961. He then worked for the US Dept of Defense as a defense systems inspector retiring in 1988 at Goodyear, AZ. where he was involved with the SR-71 “Blackbird” spy plane. Harold and his wife retired to Surprise, AZ. where he enjoyed gardening and desert camping. He moved to the Olympia area in 2006 to be closer to family. Harold was a quiet gentleman. He had a profound love of his family, his Catholic faith and his Country. He was rightfully proud of his nearly 50 years of service to “Good Old Uncle Sam”. Private graveside services will be held at the National Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ. The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to all the staff at The Hampton Alzheimer Care Center in Tumwater for their wonderful, loving care of Dad.
