Obituary of Joyce Colton

Joyce (Wurtzel) Colton Joyce was born in Los Angeles on December 17, 1925. She passed away surrounded by her family on October 16, 2011. She moved to Orcas Island in 1985 and to Olympia in 1994. She attended UCLA, majoring in art, and worked summers at 20th Century Fox in the special effects department. She eventually graduated from Immaculate Heart College in 1977. She married Herbert Colton in 1946. Joyce was an accomplished interior designer for 50 years. She was president of the Los Angeles Chapter and National Director of the American Society of Interior Designers. She was a national board member of the National Society of Interior Designers, and co-founded the International Society of Interior Designers. Among her other accomplishments, she was founder and first president of the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles and the Art Deco Society Northwest. She participated on the Los Angeles Olympics Organizing Committee (1984). She was a devoted Scottish Terrier lover. She is survived by her daughters Chris of Tumwater and Pamela of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and her granddaughter Sarah.
