Obituary of Gene A. Colson

Gene A. Colson Gene A. Colson went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2012 in Olympia, Washington. He is survived by his two daughters, Lisa (Terry) Fisher and Carol Colson; his sister, Helen Sherwood; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Gene was born June 18, 1931 in Hill City, Kansas and later moved to McCleary, Washington and graduated from Elma High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War on three US Navy ships as an I.C. Electrician, Third Class between July 12, 1949 and April 2, 1953. He was skilled at working in communications electronics and spent his lifetime designing, engineering, building, and maintaining radio communications systems in the Northwest and all the way to the Artic Sea at the north of Alaska. He owned his own business, Colson Communications, worked on the Alaska Pipeline and retired from WSDOT. He was an avid fisherman, loving to spend time in the Canadian Rockies near 100 Mile House, British Columbia. The family spent many vacations at the BZ Ranch, where they caught and mounted many “wall fish” – fish large enough to be prized. He made many friends in his ham radio hobby, having made contacts all over the world. And he loved baseball! He will be honored with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Tahoma National Cemetery, located at 18600 Southeast 240th Street, Kent, WA 98402.
