Obituary of Barbara Anne Coffman

Barbara Anne Coffman, 68, passed away Saturday December 15, 2007 at home in Olympia after a second courageous fight with cancer. Many people have been blessed by her love and friendship and will miss her deeply.Barb was born September 9, 1939 in La Jolla, CA to Dorothy and Pirl Calvert. She graduated from La Jolla High School in 1957, received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1961, and a Master of Education degree from Western Washington University in 1980. Barb married Roger Mustain in 1958, they had 3 children. In 1976 Barb moved to the Boistfort Valley where she taught for over 15 years at Boistfort Elementary School before retiring in 1992. She married Bill Coffman in Boistfort in 1977. In 2003, they moved to Olympia where Barb gardened and landscaped to her heart’s content. Both Barb and Bill really enjoyed being in their new home. Barb also liked to read and spend time with friends and family and was a wonderful Grandma to Cody, Elizabeth, Spencer, Chase, Samantha, Derrick and Daniel. Barb was part of the Boistfort Community Church family for many years and loved helping with children’s ministries. She especially valued the Ladies’ Retreats where there would be lots of laughter and limited sleep. At the time of her death, she was a member of Grace Community Covenant Church in Olympia. She enjoyed helping with children’s ministries and praying with the ladies of the Tuesday morning Bible study. Barbara is survived by her grandchildren; sons, Darin Mustain of Albuquerque, NM, Dean Coffman of Bellingham, Brian (Maryanne) Coffman of Snohomish and Brent Coffman of Mt. Vernon; daughters, Teresa (Leonard) Smith of Lacey, Amy Mustain of Renton, Lynda (John) Oldow of Viola, ID, and Lori (Frank) Radtke of Sparks, NV; brother Wesley (Beverly) Calvert of Olympia, sister Marjorie (Paul) Jones of Escondido, CA and several nieces and nephews, many of whom called her “Aunt Barbie”. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, her aunt Barbara Dike, niece Janet Cook and nephew Paul Jones. The family wishes to thank Catholic Community Services and Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice for their excellent care and support. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday December 28, 2007 at Grace Community Covenant Church, 5501 Wiggins Rd., Olympia.
