I was mentioning to my wife the other day how I would like to track down the Larry Burkett from Iowa City who I was friends with in Basic Training (Oct - Dec 67), Radio Operator AIT at Ft. Huachuca (Jan & Feb 68) and RTT AIT at Ft. Gordon from Mar - May 68. We both deployed to Vietnam in June 69 and lost touch. Larry & I became friends during that period. I'm very sorry to learn I was 4 years too late.
My deepest sympathy on your loss.

I was just Googling Larry's name to see if I could find him, and discovered the sad news of his passing.
I served as his executive officer in Panama in 1983-84. He is one of the finest officers I ever served with, and I wished I could have told him how important he was to my eventually successful career in the Army.
Were it not for the mentoring and example which he gave me, I would have had a much less rewarding and productive life.

My sincere condolences on the loss of Larry. He and I became very good friends during his tenure as the rangemaster at Oly P.D. I was such a lousy shot (Yup even after 28 yrs. as a cop here in Olympia) and Larry would be so patient and easy going with me to keep the stress level down. His insight and personal help with my grip; his happy mood; his down-to-earth personality; really everything about him I will truly miss. He was in my office just a few months before his passing and he did not mention anything regarding a health problem. I was stunned to hear of him passing on........I recently have lost both my Dad (cancer) and my Mom (stroke) to God's hands and I know how much Larry's family must grieve. I grieve with you. As I grow old too many wonderful people are passing on. Larry was a wonderful person. I am grateful to have him as a past friend. God bless him.

Steve and Family,
I was very sad to hear from my parents in Iowa City that your brother Larry had passed away recently. My what a life he has had all these years. I did not know him as well as I did you. I am another one of your Henry Sabin classmates. May peace be with you at this time of sorrow.

I got to know Larry at the Olympia Police Range. So sorry to hear about his death as I didn't realize he had been ill. I also didn't know about his interesting background. Amazing what we don't know about each other in life. Kris and family....my prayers are with you.......

My condolences. Our Iowa City lives were often disorderly and boistrous, but not forgotten. It was probably beneficial that we both got out of town! Sorry I can't be there for the services. Again, my sympathies
