Obituary of JoAnn Brown

JoAnn (Schlichte) Brown JoAnn Brown, 82, passed away May 5, 2012 in Tumwater, Washington. She was born October 7, 1929 to Gregory Andrew Schlichte and Carol Gladys Bronson Schlichte in Brawley, California. JoAnn was a 1947 graduate of Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington, and went on to Knapp Business College in Tacoma in 1948. She married Elliott Martin Brown on March 17, 1956 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they were together for 56 years. JoAnn was a positive, vivacious, gregarious, irreverent, generous, energetic and goal-oriented person. She was kind and loving, and was much loved in return. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, singing and dancing, entertaining, gardening, and playing bridge. Professionally, JoAnn worked for the State of Washington; at People’s Store; in a hospital in Seattle; at KHON radio station in Honolulu, Hawaii; as a bookkeeper in Hollywood, California; for Judy Lee Jewels; and at Meredith Hallmark. She also owned and managed her own business, Brown’s Billing Service, until 1997. She also was active in several organizations, including Girl Scouts (as a leader), Soroptimist International, Trinity United Methodist Church in Pomona, California, and the First United Methodist Church in Olympia. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Elliott; son, Richard Martin Brown; daughters, Carol Leah Brown and Paula Jayne Brown; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Richard “Dick” Schlichte; nephew, Glen Falconer; niece, Debbi. Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 1224 Legion Way SE, Tumwater. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. Memorial donations may be made to Soroptimists International of Olympia or Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services of Seattle.
