Obituary of Larry George Bowker

Larry Bowker, 62, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2005 at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia. He was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1942 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle to George Harold and Evelyn (Brassey) Bowker. He attended the old Lacey Grade School and graduated from North Thurston High School in 1960. Larry joined the Navy upon graduation and was stationed at Pt. Mugu, California as a weatherman. After 3 years in the service, he was honorably discharged and was employed in heavy construction working in Thurston, King, and Kitsap counties on numerous high rise buildings, underground parking garages, and other large projects. He played slow pitch ball and won many trophies in local pool tournaments including a Thurston County Championship in the 1970’s. He also excelled in the sport of arm wrestling. In 1974, Larry married Colleen Marie Jensen who predeceased him 2001. Larry had a wonderful sense of humor, loved movies, was a rock n’ roll buff, and had an astonishing memory for trivia. Larry also had a passion for new convertibles of which he owned many over the years – either black or white. He was generous with friends and strangers, and was a great tease. Larry’s survivors include his father, George (Mina) Bowker; sister, Sally Hicks; brother, Steven (Kathy) Bowker; nephew, Jason (Lisa) Hicks and family; stepdaughters, Sheila Carpenter and Heidi McWhorter. His mother, Evelyn Morgan and stepfather, Ernie Morgan, predeceased him. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Larry’s name to the local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous. Larry was inurned on Monday, May 16, 2005 at Pioneer Cemetery in Lacey
