Obituary of Roy E. Barnes

Roy E. Barnes was born January 4,1927 in Newton, Iowa to Roy and Ida Barnes the oldest of four children, Gwen, Alice and Larry.Roy served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Trinity (AO13) obtaining the rank of “Mailman 3c”. Following his military service, Roy returned to Cedar Rapids, Iowa were he married and raised a family of three (Steve, Mark and Rochelle). In 1962 he moved his family to Washington State and lived in several cities before settling in Bellevue, in the Lake Hills area. In 1969 Roy married Virginia Lemmon. The couple moved to California for four years, then returning to Washington and living in Kirkland from 1973 until 2006. Relocating to Lacey in 2006. Roy was an active member in the Independent Order of Foresters, held many offices including Chief Ranger and worked on various committees during his many years of membership. A Life Time member of the VFW and became an active member of the Lacey Senior Center. He was also a member of Good Sam's Camping Club and The Roamin' Wheels. Roy was employed as the Auto Manager of the Bellevue Kmart Store until retirement in 1989. Roy passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by loved ones in his home November 5, 2010, while recovering from a stroke in August. Roy is survived by: his wife of 41 years, Virginia Sons: Steve and Mark; Daughter Rochelle: Brother Larry and Sister Gwen. Three Grandchildren Three Great grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
