Obituary of Lorene N. Adkins

Lorene N. (Shorey) Corbin-Adkins, 95, a resident of Tenino for over 60 years, died at Bethany Family Living in Olympia on Wednesday, August 8, 2007. She was born December 28, 1911 in the Neuwakum Valley to pioneers Fred and Ottie (Nettleton) Shorey. The Shorey family began the first trading post in Neuwakum. She graduated from Napavine High School and had attended business school. Lorene married, Clement “Peaches” Corbin in 1937. They made their home in Tenino where they raised their three boys. Lorene worked for Puget Power for a number of years and then worked for the Tenino School District as Office Manager for over 20 years. Peaches Corbin ran the Jiffy Café until he passed away in 1970. She married Leslie Adkins in 1978, he passed away in 1982. Lorene enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to two bridge clubs and a book club. She was active in Eastern Star and the Tenino Presbyterian Church where she was the organist for a long time. Her all time favorite thing to do was shop. Lorene is survived by her two sons, Larry (Sandy) Corbin of Olympia and Ron (Pam) Corbin of Twin Falls, Idaho; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her son Neal, passed away in 1983. A memorial service will be held in Tenino at the Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. A family burial will precede the service.
