Obituary of Dorothy Lorraine Woodall

Dorothy Lorraine “Dot” Woodall passed away July 10, 2016 in Olympia, WA, her home the past 11 years. She was born July 3, 1919 to Fulton Frank and Gladys Katherine (Crounse) Woods in Brewster, WA, where she lived for five years (1924). Dot also resided in Seattle, WA (1924-1952), Mill-A, WA (1952-1964), and Alexandria, VA (1964-2004). She graduated from Seattle’s Ballard High School in 1936, and attended the University of Washington and Portland State University. She married Arthur Neal Woodall on January 3, 1939 in Seattle. Dot was a professional artist (1968-2012) and a founding member of the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria (1974-2004). She also belonged to the Northern Virginia Art League, Sumi-e Society of America, and Olympia Senior Center Poetry Group. In addition to art, she loved opera, travel and gardening. Dot was a person with a keen sense of humor and a ready smile. She was always gracious and accepting of others. She was well read and spoken, living and participating in the present without past grievances or future worries. She enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, and meeting new people. Dot was a strong and uncomplaining person who lived fully until the very end. She is survived by her son, William Michael Woodall of Olympia; daughter, Laurie Woodall Wilcox of Olympia; and one grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Neal (3/19/2007); and brother, Frank Fulton Woods.
