I spent a lot of time at Martha’s house as a young child, playing with my cousin and good friend, Karen. Martha always made me feel welcome. I remember that my mom said that Martha was so much fun as a young adult. They had great times together.

As her daughter, I obviously have many memories of mom. One of them took place when I was 7 or 8 I think. We would go to downtown Los Angeles by streetcar and Christmas shop in those beautiful, huge buildings. The windows were so beautifully decorated. She also took us by streetcar to the beach during the summer. I loved to hear her play the piano, playing music that even her organ teachers couldn’t play. Her fingers just flew. I remember how exasperated she would get when my dad would untie her apron strings, just about every night….she must have secretly loved it. Before she taught me to sew, she sewed many of my clothes and even some toys…my favorite was a very fuzzy and soft kitty (who no longer has any fuzzy left on her). I really have many fond memories of her and miss her. It was sad that she had dementia the last few years as it made it harder for her to recognize people. She had a long and good life and was a good friend to many. Goodbye mom…I’ll see you again in Heaven….Love you, Karen
