I never formally met John but learned of his disease through his ex wife Judy. My husband had dementia and motor neuron disease and passed April 26th. I was fortunate enough to meet Judy and she gave me advice and help on how to proceed with helping my husband with his disease.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia are horrible diseases. The person who has it is trapped inside their mind and no one really knows what they are thinking. It can destroy families as well. From reading these comments John sounded like a wonderful man! May he R.I.P. and be his old self in heaven.

John was one of my first cousins. His mother was my mother’s sister & they were close in age. We grew up in the same area: Arbutus, Md. John was always special–he studied hard & became a successful doctor.
I wish I had known him longer, but he moved out west, & I joined the Foreign Service & travelled with my family for many years overseas. My family & I extend our condolences to John & his family.

I first met John when I was in my final year of nursing school. He was a Pharmacist in the same hospital, and attending medical school at the University of Maryland. We married in December of that year. Although our marriage only lasted 7 1/2 years, we shared a lot of experiences; the most exciting was the birth of our sons. John assisted with both of their births. And although we lived in different states after our divorce, John stayed in contact with Mike & Jim. The boys spent summers and some holidays in Reno; our families came together for important events like graduations and weddings over the years. When John moved to Olympia and his illness became obvious I was fortunate to be in a position (unemployed) to help with his care. Learning about Alzheimer’s and meeting others caring for family members and former family members opened my eyes to the tragedy of the disease and how it affects entire families. I am grateful for the many caregivers, some better than others, who cared for John for the past 10 months when our family could no longer provide the needed care.

I met John 17 years ago when my sister Katy and Michael got married. He was a pleasant man to be around, after that we visit with my husband Robert and spend time talking to him. He was famous for his good ice cream and good expensive chocolates, We had a good conversations. One time I mentioned to him that I like Rickie Martin and next thing I knew he bought a Rickie Martin calendar for me and I thought that was funny but nice on his part to give me that. I will miss him dearly.

We have all lost an exemplary man who made a difference and I have lost a wonderful friend. There are not enough superlatives nor is there enough time to describe this wonderful man, a healer, a true Renaissance man, generous to a fault. John will always be remembered as a great father, brother, physician, husband and friend to all who were fortunate enough to have had him in their life. My sincerest sympathy goes out to his entire family. John, I hope you brought your camera to photograph some angels. I can’t wait to see the prints! Rest in peace my friend.

I’m thankful to my Dad! We shared so many wonderful, beautiful, fun and happy times together. We also share difficult times together as he aged and lived with us during the part of his life with Alzheimer’s Disease. Dad also touched the lives of so many others, perhaps yours…
Please honor Dr. John Wesley Wilson by leaving a memory, thought, prayer or comment about your time spent knowing my Dad.
God Bless you all & Jesus loves you,
Michael E. Wilson (Son)
