Obituary of Arthur E. Underwood

Arthur was born to George and Eva Underwood on January 20, 1930 in East Alton, Illinois. He was 84 when he passed away on March 7, 2014 of Lymphoma with his family by his side in his Lacey, Washington home. Arthur graduated from Wood River High School in Illinois before joining the US Army. He served his country from 1947-1950 while stationed at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington. Arthur married the love of his life, Irene Bay, on November 2, 1949 in Port Townsend, Washington. Arthur and Irene made their home in Port Angeles, Washington from 1950-1990 where they raised their four children; three sons and a daughter. Arthur made his living working as a heavy equipment operator at Crown Zellerbach from 1953-1990 when they then moved to Lacey, Washington. He greatly enjoyed going on cruises, playing gaming machines, attending auctions, going camping and fishing as well as anything that allowed him to spend time with his wife, Irene. He was a member of the Washington Airstream Club in Lacey and volunteered for Hospice. He loved to tell jokes to keep his family laughing. Everyone that knew him would refer to him as “just a good guy”. Arthur is survived by his wife, Irene of Lacey; daughter, Roberta (Herb) Pauly of Port Angeles; son, Arthur M. Underwood of Port Angeles; brother, John Underwood of East Alton, Illinois; sisters, Erma Dobey, Janet Schimberg and Emily Pyle all of Illinois; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
