Dr. Toraason was my employer for almost 20 years. Melanie, Lael, and I were three of the most fortunate people in the world to be working for him and Ruth. He taught us much, and there will never be another office like suite 634. The Toraason’s had class, style, and his dentistry was first class. His patients loved him, and Dr T and Ruth loved them back. Mrs T was my greatest mentor, and one of my best friends. I miss her so much, but I am happy that Dr T is with her again blazing through the universe. Until we meet again, I will remember you always.

Dr. Toraason was my dentist from age 3 to 30. He was a much beloved dentist and I’ve never found another dentist quite like him. Also important to me was the modern art in his office, the first I’d ever seen. Now, as a professional artist, I look back with gratefulness for both his dentistry and his support of the arts. My mom, a patient for over 40 years, passed away just three days before Don. Her obituary was just below his in the newspaper. Two fine people.

Dr. Toraason was simply the finest man and consummate professional who filled his office with fine human beings, not the least of which was his beloved wife Ruth. I, my husband, son, mother and father were patients of Dr T. for decades and we all felt especially well and painlessly taken care of by him. He was a solid, sure thing, very special in this world. We miss him.
Really glad to have known and traveled some same time on this earth with Dr. Toraason.

Sending you blessings on the loss of your dear dad. Sounds like he lived a good life. Can’t get better than baseball and animals. Since retiring I have been a volunteer at the local animal shelter and I will think of him when I am blessed with loving the little creatures that are so dear to so many. Prayers for your strength during this difficult time. Mary

Hello Gail and Scott,
Our whole family went to Dr. Toraason from 1952 until he retired. My Mom, Dorothy Steinhaus, died on April 3rd and her obituary is in the column next to your Dad in the Seattle Times today. He was a wonderful dentist and person. That applies to your Mom too. We loved going downtown from West Seattle to see them, especially at Christmas time. Wishing you all the best as we all try to move into the phase where we are the oldest members of the family.

My condolences to the family of one of the finest gentleman I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. If my memory serves, I started going to Dr. Toraason when I started high school in 1959 and continued under his regular care until his retirement. He and Ruth were wonderful people who obviously cared about their clients and made visits to the dentist a pleasure rather than something to fear, even for those of us who never quite got the hang of proper dental hygiene.

So sad to read of the passing of the iconic Dr. Toraason but happy in the knowledge he is once again with Ruth. (May be a double-edge sword, however, if she once again will monitor his food and insist on only healthy and organic and frequently boring.) As former patients, we miss him and his gentle touch as we paraded in for cleaning, cavities, and crowns. Trust us, the practice he left has never been the same and continually becomes less so. Rest in peace, Dr. Toraason, and revel in being reunited with Ruth and all your dogs.
