Obituary of Trevor Tracy Smith

It is with great sadness that the family of Trevor Tracy Smith shares the news of his passing on November 18, 2014. Trevor would have celebrated his 21st birthday next month. Trevor was a unique young man who left his mark on the world with his joyful, enthusiastic and pure spirit. Trevor was a 2012 Black Hills High School graduate who was known, first and foremost, for his compassion toward others. After high school, Trevor served in the Conservation Corps in Bellingham for a year. This was followed by a six-month adventure in Hawaii, working on an organic farm with his cousin, Vajra, and his wife, Christina. In Trevor’s short life, he made the world a better place. He leaves behind a legacy of giving. As a member of Tumwater Teens for St. Bernard Project, Trevor gave up his spring breaks during high school to help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. He once wrote a letter in which he said the experience in New Orleans “Blinded me with this new perspective. I quit taking so much in my life for granted. When you realize how hard and how little some people have even in our own country, it’s eye opening.” He said it helped him to start “living through my heart” and went on to say “everyone is in need of love, care comfort, and support.” Trevor also traveled to the New Jersey coastline to help with the clean-up after Hurricane Sandy. If you knew Trevor, you knew that he was genuine, nurturing, honest, intelligent, joyful and so much more. He cared about people, our environment, about health and nutrition, and he had a disarming sense of humor and joyfulness. His good nature was recognized in high school as he was chosen Prom King and Senior Class Speaker by his classmates. Trevor is survived by his mother, Angela Erickson-Smith; his father, Tracy Smith; his stepmother, Lauré; sister, Erika; half brother, Carson; maternal grandparents, Richard and Scarlett Erickson; paternal grandparents, Leslie and Beverly Smith; great grandfather, Ed Thiessen; uncles and aunts, Ryan and Celeste Erickson, Rachael Erickson, Tatum and Pat Ponzoha, Dennis and Toni Backstrom, Loren Smith, and Gregory Smith; cousins, Vajra, Alicia, Joshua, Zachary, Zoie, and Benjamin; and stepsiblings, Colin Smith and Shayne Smith. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Aaron Erickson.
