Obituary of Shirley Rose Siegler

Shirley Rose Siegler joined her husband, Don, in the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. She was surrounded by her children and friends as she passed peacefully away. Shirley was born on March 11, 1935, to Ernest H. Martin and Myrtle Anna Henderson in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Only 78 years young, she was just five weeks short of her 79th birthday. As a child, Shirley attended Catholic boarding school in Boise, Idaho. She moved to Washington in 1945 and attended Olympia High School. Shirley attended Olympia Beauty School and worked at Western State Hospital, where she worked on the wards until she graduated from beauty college. Upon graduation, Shirley began working in the beauty shop of Western State Hospital for about five years. After marriage and the children started coming along, she stayed home with her children until they were grown. She worked as a teacher’s aid at Little Rock Elementary School and also worked as a nurse’s aid at Olympic Manor. After completing secretarial school at Capitol Business College, she began working for the Timberland Library System. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed life traveling with Don. She loved her children, grandchildren and pets (not necessarily in that order). She enjoyed painting ceramics, and doing needlepoint; she made towels, blankets and pillowcases for baby gifts and wedding gifts for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed flowers, chocolate and cooking. Her pumpkin cake rolls were in demand every year for Christmas gifts. Shirley was a tough, strong, stubborn woman, fighting battles with cancer, the loss of her husband, Don, and her daughter, Susan, with peace and dignity. She is survived by six children, Richard (Debbie) French of Olympia, Terry (Pamela) Siegler of Rochester, Washington, Glen (Susan) Siegler of Tumwater, David Siegler of Olympia, Annette Reilly of Tumwater, and Theresa Siegler; 12 grandchildren, Matthew Reilly, Chris (Julie) Reilly of Seattle, Donald, Breanna, Brooklyn and James Siegler, Terrin Siegler, Zandrea (Doug) Edenstrom, Tabitha ( Adam) LeJune of Belgium, Sylvia (Derek) Church of Alaska; Jeffrey (Lanita) Borngraeber of Florida, Gordon Wildes of California; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Jimmie (Daniel) MacLachlan of Olympia, and Terry, Alice and Tammy of Aurora, Illinois. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Donald Siegler; daughter, Susan French; grandson, David Matthew Siegler; and sister, Ernestine Martin. We would like to thank Pedro Bidot, a special family friend, for his support and friendship throughout the years.
