Obituary of Judy Showalter

Judy Showalter entered eternal rest on April 7, 2014. Judy was born on August 12, 1941 to Merle R. and Voletta Tidrick in Kansas City, Missouri. Overcoming challenging experiences and losses in her early life, Judy turned to music as a source of joy and comfort. It was through music that she met the love of her life, Al Showalter. They were married on March 2, 1960. Together, they lived in Kansas City, Kansas, Bremerton and Olympia, Washington, Caldwell, Idaho and back to Olympia. Judy stayed home to raise four children and care for the family needs. She was later able to work away from the home at The Music Bar. She later worked at J.C. Penney and G.L. Kluh’s. Along with her love for music, Judy enjoyed golf, bowling, feeding birds, squirrels and every cat in the neighborhood. She was happy to host gatherings with friends but was most happy when the gathering included family. When it was time, Al went before her in 2008. Judy continued to bowl, care for her cats, make new friends and stay in touch with old ones. Judy moved to Roolan Healthcare Lodge 1 Assisted Living in January 2014, where she quickly became known as the resident who loved coffee and whipped cream on her desserts. Judy is survived by her four children, Merlyn Sterling, Gerri (Tracy) Boyer, Lorri Showalter and Michael (Kim) Showalter; seven grandchildren, Danielle (Theron) Hobbs, Shannon (Tim) Angell, David Caverly, Lisa Caverly, Ashley Kredel, Melissa Boyer and Taylor Kredel; three great-grandchildren, Theron Hobbs III, Raymond and Alice Angell; her two sisters, Carol Masewitz and Joyce (Elmer) Fred; and many nieces and nephews. We are thankful that “Grammy” was able to meet and hold her first great-granddaughter, Alice. Thank you to her good friend, Jack Weeks, whose involvement in her life enriched and prolonged her time with us. A special appreciation is also extended to her CNA, Michelle Jason, all of the staff at Providence SoundHome Care and Hospice, and the staff at Roolan Health Care. Judy was laid to rest with her husband, Al, at a private burial on April 11, 2014 at the Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater, Washington.
