Obituary of Phyllis Evelyn Reuss Shannon

Phyllis Evelyn Reuss Shannon, 75, a resident of Elma, Washington since 1998, died at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington on Thursday, July 2, 2015. Phyllis was born in Benson, Minnesota, to Edwin and Evelyn (Zick) Reuss. She was a graduate of Ancker Hospital School of Nursing and was a practicing registered nurse and public health nurse for many years, consumer advocate with Alberta Consumer and Corporate Affairs, and an officer for the State of Oregon Real Estate Commission. On December 28, 1960, she married John Shannon of Litchfield, Minnesota. They lived in Minnesota for eight years before moving to Athabasca, Alberta, Canada for 25 years, then to Salem, Oregon for five years, and eventually moving across the street from her sister in Elma. Phyllis was on the Council of Faith Lutheran Church, Chair of the East County Christmas for Kids, volunteered with Faith Lutheran Ladies Quilting Circle, Friends of the Elma Library, and Grays Harbor Fair Home Arts. Phyllis is survived by her husband of 54 years, John; two of their three children, Stacey (Sue Wells), and Michael (Louise Hodder); four grandchildren, Amy and Taylor Wesolowsky of Edson, Alberta, and Lauren and Caleb Shannon of Highfields, Australia; one brother, Warren Reuss; and three sisters, Delores Allen, Marlys Nelson, and Sandra French. Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter, Terry Beth Wesolowsky; son-in-law, Brian Wesolowsky; her parents; and brother, Leroy Reuss. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church, 1296 Monte Elma Road, Elma, WA 98541, with Rev. Dennis Hartsook presiding.
