Obituary of Paul Schweers

A 45-year resident of Tenino, Wash., Paul Schweers, age 77, died due to complications of Parkinsons on December 11, 2013 in Olympia, Wash. He was born June 1, 1936 to Pliny and Alice Schweers in Seattle, Wash. He joined the Marine Corps reserves while a West Seattle High School senior, served as a marine after graduation until he was discharged in 1957, and returned to reserve status until 1961. He married Elizabeth Davis on July 26, 1957 in Seattle, and attended Washington State University. Over the years, he was an engineer; professional football player for the 49ers in California; and a ranch hand, fitting and showing cattle. He enjoyed participating in rodeo events as a team roper, calf roper, bull dogger, and was a member of the Cattleman’s Association, serving as President of Thurston County Cattleman’s Association for several years, as well as serving on the state board. He also loved photography, winning various awards at state and county fairs; he was a member of the local Photographic Society. Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth; daughter, Valerie (Steve) Akins of Spokane, Wash.; and granddaughters, Karen Akins of Williams, Arizona, and Laura Akins of Spokane, Wash.
