Obituary of Richard Charles Payne

Richard Charles “Dick” Payne, 77, of Olympia, Washington, died December 13, 2013. He was born to the late William Harold “Harry” Payne and Doris Marie Kilgore on July 5, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa. Dick served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 before settling in Olympia, Washington, where he began a 35-year career as a Computer Programmer for Sunset Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1998. Dick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nancie, and five children. He is also survived by his mother, Ida Payne, five siblings, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other close friends. Dick was a dedicated member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Olympia where he was involved with the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and Lector Ministries. He was an incredibly intelligent man who embraced the goodness in people and his kind heart was an inspiration to all he encountered. Dick was also an avid sports fan, closely following the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Huskies each season. In lieu of flowers, Dick requested that donations be made to St. Michael Catholic Church’s Shoulder-to-Shoulder Program in Olympia, or to the Providence Foundation.
