Obituary of Carl R. Pagan

Carl R. Pagan, affectionately known as Papa, passed away March 23, 2013 in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 79. He was born April 23, 1933 to Everett and Pearl Pagan in Slick, Oklahoma. Carl joined the U.S. Navy on June 2, 1950 and served in both the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He received the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, three Good Conduct Awards, a United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. Carl went on reserves June 1, 1972, and retired from the Navy on May 1, 1981. He was an electronic engineer, welder and truck driver. He married Audra Lee Pyles on January 30, 1960 in California; she passed away March 30, 1972. Over the years, Carl lived in Guam, Hawaii, California, Nevada, Georgia, and several cities in Washington, including Spanaway. For the last four and a half years, he lived in Olympia and Auburn. Carl was generous, cantankerous, and loving in his own unique way. He loved hanging with his family, especially his great grandchildren, woodworking, fishing, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, and buying scratch and lotto tickets. He was a member of SDA in Auburn and Lacey, the American Legion, and Odd Fellows. He is survived by his daughters, Darla A. Tillinghast of Olympia, and Carla R. Warden of Auburn; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and brothers, Joe Pagan of Florida, and Cliff Pagan of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audra; infant son, Robert Ray Pagan; sisters, Jessie Sanyi and Mary McCarty; and brothers, Alfred Pagan and John Pagan.
