Obituary of Joy Orth

Joy Beulah Orth Joy Beulah Orth, 88, passed away peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by her loved ones, on the 26thof October 2013. She was born the 11th of April, 1925 to Joseph and Pearl Robinson in Tacoma, Washington. As a small child, Joy lived in the woods where her mother imparted to her a life-long love for the beauty and splendor of God’s creation. Joy later attended school in Sumner where she excelled in her studies, played violin and learned to make do growing up in the heart of the depression. She married Lloyd Orth in 1942 and together they lived most of their years in western Washington. During the 1980s they made a remote island near Wrangell, Alaska home before returning to the Yelm and Tenino area. Lloyd preceded Joy in death in 1990. Joy was a consummate mother who deeply loved each of her six children. Fiercely loyal and faithful, she saw the good in people and was a defender of the weak and less fortunate. Joy loved the Lord Jesus Christ displaying a servant’s heart and thinking of others until her journey’s end. She loved her church family at Tenino Crossroads Community church, faithfully attending and serving even as her health failed in later years. A published author, Joy wrote a book about her life in Alaska, authored numerous articles on gardening and cooking, and covered the local scene for the Tenino Independent for many years. Though a country girl at heart she also believed a little glamour never hurt. Joy is survived by four children: Lee Orth, Tenino, WA; Doug Orth, Olympia, WA; Jeff Orth, North Bend, WA; and Sethnie Arends, Lincoln, NE. She also is survived by a son-in-law Bob Lincoln, Yelm, WA and fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition, Joy leaves behind a large number of caring relatives and friends who will also miss her dearly. In addition to her husband Lloyd, Joy was preceded in death by her son Emmett Orth, daughter Lorinda Lincoln, brother Ed Robinson and grandson Isaac Lincoln. The family wishes to thank the many people who loved and cared for Joy over the last few years of her failing health, including the loving staff at Rosemont Retirement Home and Mother Joseph Care Center. The funeral has been arranged through Funeral Alternatives and will take place Monday, November 4th at 1:00 P.M at the Yelm Seventh Day Adventist Church. The church is located at 17525 Hwy 507 SE, Yelm WA. Burial will follow immediately at the Yelm Cemetery.
