Obituary of John R.G. Myers II

John R.G. Myers II, age 66, passed away December 3, 2013 at home in Olympia, Washington. He was a burly man in plaid flannel. He told corny jokes and made up puns. He was hard working and dedicated to his family. John was born September 7, 1947 in Fort Hood, Texas to Richard and Betty (Hancock) Myers. He grew up an Army dependent, living in various locations around the U.S. and overseas, including Babenhausen and Nurnberg, Germany; Medicine Park, Oklahoma; Fort Worth, Texas. For the last 49 years he has been a resident of Olympia, Washington. John graduated from North Thurston High School in 1965, served in the Army from 1965 to 1968, including one tour in Viet Nam. He married his best friend Donna Yetman in Fort Worth, Texas on October 9, 1972. Professionally, he was a maintainer at Crown, Cork and Seal (previously Continental Can) for 41 years, retiring in 2010. He was an avid reader of history and science fiction, especially time travel and alternate history. He loved all kinds of movies, from science fiction to action or romantic comedies. He listened to classical and folk music. He disliked crowds but loved to people watch. He loved to explore out of the way places of history and nature. He was a skilled cribbage player and enjoyed letterboxing and photography. John is survived by his wife, Donna (Yetman) Myers; son, John R.G. Myers III of Lacey, Washington; and daughter, Kathrine Myers and her husband, Ian Yates, of North Bend, Washington. He was predeceased by his parents.
