Obituary of Matthew James Mixon

Matthew James Mixon left us much too soon on March 22, 2015, but his light will shine in our lives forever. From his birth on October 20, 1974, he was a sweet and loving child who grew into a caring adult. His wife, Susie, and his children, Ashley, Brandon, and Justin lit up his life. He was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews, and was always first in line to hold a new baby in the family. As a critical care nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital, he devoted his career to caring for others. He was often sought after by families to care for their loved ones in the hospital. Matt fought valiantly for five months to remain present for his family as an aggressive brain tumor claimed his brain and his body. In the end, Matt won…it could never rob him or us of his soul or his love. His mischievous smile and independent spirit lasted until the very end, when he peacefully left as he wanted, in the arms of his wife in a quiet moment alone together. So many people are left to carry his loving spirit with them. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his parents, Marilyn (Jon) Krause and Jerry (Banding) Mixon; and nine brothers and sisters, Rebecca Mixon, Leah Bacon, Jinni Carlson, Mari Wilkins, Jeremy Mixon, Marc Mixon, Jeremy Krause, Jon Krause, and Karla Ostrander.
