Found the enclosed photo and thought immediately of Jeff. I was his catcher beginning in freshman baseball (two to his left). He got me thru freshman calculus and I remember him fondly. I am saddened by his premature passing. A good guy.

We are so sadden by the loss of Dr. Jeff. Most of the times, pets get tense when they go to see their vet. Not so with Dr. Jeff. All our dogs were excited to learn they were going to see Dr. Jeff. We always knew they received the best of care from him. And his bedside manner with owners kept us all calm. I’ll be all the pets in dog heaven are thrilled to know he is there for them now. Our best to his family and staff. We all miss him.

Dr. Mitchell had been our vet even before he had his own hospital. He was a kind man who always treated our pets like the members of our family, as they are. He will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to his family and to the staff and all who knew him.

Jeff was one of my first mentors. I began “seeing practice” with Jeff when I was about 12. He served as a reference for my application to veterinary school at WSU in 1988. He was my parent’s veterinarian for over 30 years.
He had a passion for animals and a calm, caring nature. One’s mentors shape one’s future and Jeff played a pivotal role in where I am today, a Professor at the University of Missouri’s, College of Veterinary Medicine. Thanks, Jeff! You will be missed!

We were so sad this week to learn of Dr. Mitchell’s passing. He cared for our dachshund the past eight years. We’ll miss his gentle and soft-spoken nature, common sense approach, and incredible patience with Ginger, who usually was nervous on her visits to the clinic. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and staff.

Dr. Mitchell brought a great kindness and gentleness to his treatment of our family pets, Fred, Beau and Eddie. I was impressed that his first checkup of our dogs was free, because we had rescued them. He was respectful of them and of us. Our condolences to his family.

When we moved into west Olympia from Harstine Island, Jeff became our vet for our cats. We got super service when I rescued the neighbors cat from a coyote. He operated and saved the cat who had multiple injuries. He was a wonderful man and a very skilled vet. We will miss him a lot.

It is with great sadness that we read Dr.Mitchell had crossed over. He was a caring, compassionate man. I will always remember him saying to my cat, “are we so very, very happy to be here?” when she was trying to hide from him. He will be missed. Take good care of all our loved ones up there,Dr.Mitchell.

I will never forget Dr. Jeff’s tenderness and kindness to my dogs over many years, and to me when it came time for my best friend Fezzik to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Jeff actually came out to my house on that solemn occasion. He was a great vet and a wonderful person.

Dr. Mitchell cared deeply for our pets, and we appreciated his dedication. Our dog looked forward to his visits, even if there was a shot at the end of them!
I wrote an essay for a creative writing course in college that featured Dr. Mitchell’s home visit to euthanize our dog. I regret not sharing that with him, as he was most careful and allowed us to grieve for the dog he took care of for 15 years.
Oh and my brother even interned/volunteered with him about 25 years ago.
He had quite an interesting life from what I’ve read. We’re thankful to have known him. Our best to his family. -TJA

Charlotte and family and the staff at WOPH, I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. Mitchell was a wonderful vet to our dogs, Lucky and Rudi and our cat, Ellie. He always explained their care in a simple way that was easy to understand and was always compassionate towards all of us. And the animals seemed to trust him. He and his wonderful staff sent us a pretty grave stone for our dog Rudi–the gesture was so unexpected and made Rudi’s passing a little easier for us. And Dr. Mitchell carried a heavy bag of cat food out to our car one day when he noticed how helpful that would be to us. I also liked how he used to slide Ellie across the table to distract her when he gave her a shot and always asked if we were keeping her inside at night to keep her safe. He will definitely be missed.

Jeff has been our vet and friend since opening his first animal hospital. We always felt that he loved our cats and dogs as much as we did. Everytime one of them died, it seemed to break his heart as much as it did ours. I am sure all of his other patients and customers felt the same way. Rest in Peace our friend as you will be missed.

I will always remember the wonderful compassion you showed me with all of my animals. In particular, my chocolate lab who developed cancer. She had many trips to visit you and on her final trip you were willing to come out to our car to “put her down.” I was so sad to say goodbye and did not want to bring her into the office. You made my goodbye so much easier.

Although I never had the honor of meeting Jeff, I have been blessed to know his wonderful daughter Charlotte. In addition to sharing a birthday, Jeff and Charlotte shared the incredible bond that only exists between a father and a daughter, a bond that I also share with my dad. Charlotte-my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time…from one daddies girl to another, I’m praying for you!! I’m so, so sorry for the loss of your best friend.

This is very sad news. I’m so sorry for his family, caring clinic staff, and others who were especially close to him. Jeff was one of the people I admired most, and have felt that way since I first took my cats to him in the 80s when he got his first clinic started. I left Olympia 25 years ago, but never forgot him. Great skill, loving care and compassion for the animals, and the ability to relate to the worries and concerns we have as animal guardians. When my cat Wally died back in the 80s, Jeff was his vet. He shared my sadness and even sent flowers to our home in memory of this little cat. I will miss Jeff very much.
