Richard Maynard

Obituary of Richard Leroy Maynard

Richard Leroy “Dick” Maynard left this earth on June 25, 2014. The second of 11 children, he was born on April 29, 1935 in North Adams, Massachusetts, to Walter Leroy and Evelyn Wright Maynard. He joined the Air Force after high school, hoping to see the world, but was sent to Texas instead. There he met and married Jo Helen Hayes, got an accounting degree at the University of Texas, and had a couple of kids. Richard’s work with the federal government, first with GAO and later with the US Postal Service, moved the family around Texas, to DC, and finally to Seattle. Richard’s passion was the outdoors; he loved to hunt and fish, to backpack, to ride his bike and to run. He especially loved Hood Canal and the Olympics, and settled near Lilliwaup in retirement. Richard is survived by his two children, Cathy (Olympia) and Rick (Seattle), and a large extended family in Massachusetts. He also leaves behind two beloved caregivers, Margarita Carrillo and Diana Ascensio. Please leave memories of Richard or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
