Obituary of John A. Loyle

John died suddenly at home on August 13, 2013 in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 64. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Linda, and a remarkably loving father to his son, Grant. John’s personal legacy is simple – he cherished his family. There was nothing more important to him than Linda and Grant. He was also an extraordinary brother to David and a much-loved son, brother, and uncle to Linda’s family: Huntly, Huguette, Ann, Randy, Colette, Perry, Joan, Robert, Bruce, Robyn, Scott, Courtney, Marc, Nicole, Shawn, Brittany, Timothy, Kyle, Maya, Nicholas, Adalia, and Samara. He was a dear friend to many and a genuinely kind person who will be missed by everyone who knew him. John was born to Harold and Dorothy Loyle on March 14, 1949 in Olympia, Washington. He was a Vietnam War veteran, a proud graduate of The Evergreen State College, and a life-long resident of Olympia. Though John had health challenges, he never complained and refused to let them stop him from enjoying life. He was an avid fisherman with a talent for both catching fish and telling stories about his many memorable fishing excursions. John also loved to travel and went on lots of adventures with Linda and Grant throughout the US and Europe. In June 2013, John retired from public service after 35 years of dedication to improving the regional workforce system. His professional legacy is legendary among his colleagues. Throughout his career, John obtained awards and grants exceeding $150 million on behalf of the unemployed. His death silenced a strong voice for the poor, the unemployed, and military veterans. John was a 21-year survivor of a liver transplant. Before the surgery, he told the transplant team that he needed to raise his 3-year-old son, and if they gave him a new liver, he would not disappoint them. John kept his word and then some. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask friends to honor John’s memory by becoming organ donors, or by making a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at www.jdrf.org. A memorial service for John will be held at Indian Summer Golf and Country Club, 5900 Troon Lane SE Olympia, WA 98501, on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:30 am. The family invites all who were touched by John to join in a celebration of his life. Please leave memories of John or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
