Obituary of Robert Wayne Lewis

Robert Wayne “Bob” Lewis passed away peacefully at his home in Tenino, Washington, on February 17, 2014 at the age of 72. He was born on April 4, 1941 to Wayne and Ruth (Peterson) Lewis in Gresham, Oregon, where as a teenager and young man, Bob and his friends rebuilt and raced cars. Until 1985, Bob lived in Oregon, where he enjoyed working on his farm driving farm equipment and spending time bowling on bowling leagues. He moved to Washington State, where he met and married the love of his life, Susie Schmidt, in 1993. Bob and Susie spent their entire life together in Tenino, where Bob made many friends. Bob was very proud of and loved his job of 55 years as a truck driver driving for UPS. He also hauled logs, delivered mobile homes, and drove transfer trucks for Quality Rock Products where he was affectionately referred to by management as “Go To Bob.” Bob retired from Quality Rock Products in 2009. Bob loved camping and fishing even though he would never eat the fish! He also loved watching NASCAR Races, going to car shows, attending Oregon Trail Days in Tenino. He adored spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roger and Jerry; and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his loving wife; his two daughters, Tina Hayes Johnson (Chris Petersen) and Valerie (Hayes) Pender; son, Tom Hayes (Christine Holgerson); grandchildren, Tara Bellrose Blair (Dylan), Michelle Bellrose Middleton (Dewayne), Niki Sue Johnson, and Christian Bush; and his five great grandchildren, Damian, Emma, Judy, Wyatt, Anthony. Bob was excited about the upcoming birth of his granddaughter Tara’s and husband Dylan’s son, Waylen. Bob is also survived by four brothers, Johnny, Jim, Jeff, and Jack; and two sisters, Nancy and Susie. Please join the family for a celebration of Bob’s life and potluck meal on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Violet Prairie Grange Hall, 349 171st Ave SE, Tenino, WA 98589.
