Osprey Therian logged on today, and for the umpteenth time, I thought of Vivian, and how much I still miss her.
I only ever knew her in Second Life, but I'm glad I knew her. She was a force of nature.

I am so sorry for the loss of Vivian. I haven’t seen her for years, but we had many fun times in the late 80s and 90s? Can’t even remember when it was. She did have a great laugh, a strong opinion (which didn’t always go over big) and fought her battles intensely.
I know my brother is deeply affected by her loss as well. Paint on Vivian!

I met Vivian at WA HE LUT school and her wonderful laugh and enthusiasm for life, fun, art, and her students are still with me. I am so lucky to have known her and shared that time with her. I am fortunate to have two of her paintings that I do and always will treasure. Here’s to you, Vivian! ml

I too was taken with Vivian’s laugh – I can still hear it if I focus. I met Vivian at Childhood’s End Gallery and worked on several shows with her – one that comes to mind immediately is “Just Teasing,” a celebration of nudes. I have two of her prints from that show – penis/flowers that occasionally elicit surprised comment from observant viewers. Shocking and subtle – sort of like Vivian herself, although she veered more to the first. I always enjoyed spending time with Vivian when she came in because she was so uniquely herself – and you never knew where the conversation would go! I also envied her love of opera – because of the way she so fully experienced it. As important a genre as it is, it’s never clicked for me in the emotional, out-of-body way that so clearly brought her so much joy. It was a pleasure to have known her.

I cannot attend the service because I live in Texas, but I will be there in spirit. I consider Osprey my best friend. She and I collaborated on many projects in Second Life, though her activities there were much wider than our collaborative work. I will always treasure my time with her online and in physical space. Goodbye, dear friend.

With her huge bursts of laughter, she commanded my attention immediately. I met Vivian when she was working at Anne Buck’s in downtown Olympia. She could cook up a mighty fine breakfast, lunch or dinner, all the while keeping customers entertained and happy with her culinary delights and rye sense of humor. I was fortunate to be her partner in crime offering animation workshops for youth at my studio. We offered this workshop before much of the advanced software became available to small time videographers. She mastered the computer the same way she mastered her paints and brushes, her talent and touch boundless. She worked very, very hard for the youth that she taught and ultimately loved. I still have several wonderful CD’s of stop action animation produced by Vivian, that showcases the budding talent of our young group of animators. She was a very devoted daughter, loving sister and good friend. We are all so lucky to have you gracing our lives, Ms V. You made the daily slog through our real and virtual worlds a better journey – a fully loved experience.

Vivian had an amazing smile and a great laugh. She never let the challenges she faced in life stop her and is the textbook example for why Second Life is such an important community. I’m so happy to have known her in life and thrilled that her artwork will live on forever.
