Bill, a 39-year resident of Rainier, Washington, passed away on August 6, 2013 in Olympia at age 73. He was born January 6, 1940 to Byron and Dorothy Houston in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Sherwood Union High School in Sherwood, Oregon in 1958, received a BS in Humanities from Oregon State University in 1968, and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Washington in 1973. Bill served in the Army National Guard of Oregon (reserves) from 1960 to 1966. He worked for the Washington State Dept. of Transportation for 24 years, from 1973 until retirement in 1997. He married Bonnie Aschenbrenner on January 6, 1990 in Yelm, Washington after being together for 16 years. Bill was a humble man who loved gardening, growing dahlias, enjoying blue grass music, and spending time with the grandchildren. He was a member of the Dahlia Society and Black Hills Shufflers. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons, Ed and Ernie (Annette); daughters, Debi (Dean) and Susan (Russ); 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and brother, Gary (Phyllis).
