Carol Horn

Obituary of Carol Bird Horn

Carol passed away suddenly on January 28, 2014 at her Panorama home in Lacey, Washington. Carol was born October 2, 1925 in Parsons, Kansas, the only daughter of Lester and Carol Bird Combs. She grew up in Parsons with her three brothers, Lester “Scout,” Dick and Don. She graduated from Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, where she met and fell in love with Harold Horn. They were married in 1947 and lived with their four children in the Kansas communities of El Dorado, Concordia and Lawrence, where Harold served as City Manager. They later spent many happy years in Annandale, Virginia, where Harold was a consultant for local governments across the country. They have called Olympia and Lacey their home for the last 24 years. She made many dear friends over the years and enjoyed participating in church, PEO, handbells and Panorama activities. Carol’s husband and children were the focus of her life. Carol is survived by her husband, Harold; her brother, Don Combs of Parsons; four children, Cindy Rogers (Don) of Ovilla, Texas, Steven (Gayle) of Tallahassee, Florida, Stuart of Olympia, and Shelley (David Frey) of Olympia. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, as well as her beloved pets. Family suggests memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Olympia.
