I met Opal in 1979 when my husband and I moved back to the NW. We purchased our home from Kathy Greene and her Mom, Opal. They had bought and remodeled it as an investment. Kathy and I have been close friends ever since. Opal would come every summer in her camper and stay for a time with Kathy. She impressed me as an independent woman who had healthy eating habits. I especially remember her juicer and daily carrot drink. I loved her smile and friendly greeting. I always admired her self-sufficient life style. Kathy certainly inherited her ability to design and build something and her pioneering spirit. Not many of us would move cross country with all one’s belongings and make a new life on their own like Kathy! Opal was a strong woman who lived the life she wanted. I admire that.

Mom led such an interesting life and luckily for us had many years in which to do it!

Opal was my great aunt. I have always felt a unique kinship with her despite any distance between us. I feel her nomadic free spirit in myself. I see her bright blue eyes in my son Cruz. Ahead of her time, she made carrot juice for us before juicing was popular, grew wheat grass in her trailer as she traveled and had the best smile ready for anyone she met.
I miss her dearly but am so glad she is free of suffering. She was not meant to be pinned down in one place. I love you, Aunt Opal.

Opal and Jack were our friends for the past several years. We enjoyed camping with them in Arizona a couple of times; we came to care deeply for this woman. She loved birds, the desert, traveling, and most importantly, her daughters and grandchildren. We count it an honor to have been her friends, we will miss her..
