I met Jeanne in a poetry group, where we shared our work together for several years. Her poetry expressed her appreciation for beauty and for nature, her deep compassion, and her loving heart. I’ll always remember her love of words, her capacity to be moved by a thought or phrase, her sparkle, her kindness and grace.

Jeanne was one of the first people to welcome me to the Olympia Poetry community, and I recall riding with her to Seattle for a poetry presentation; I think it may have been by Mary Oliver. Jeanne’s talent, sweetness and sense of fun made her a joy to be with, and I am grateful to have known her, shard poetry with her, been able to look forward to seeing her at poetry gatherings.
I send my loving greetings to all of your family as we remember her, and will do so for a long time to come. You chose a beautiful photograph, thank you. May you be blessed and upheld by you own memories and share them often.

I’m so pleased to have been invited to Jeanne’s remembrance celebration and to be able to read a poem of hers and share one of mine to her. What I will always remember is her smile, chuckle, and her passion: for birds, for words, for justice that counts. I’m proud to have known her.

Jeanne was a dear friend. a fabulous travel companion from Shakespeare at Ashland to the Taj Mahal in India, to tiger spotting in Nepal. We laughed a lot and never tired of talking of books and politics, birds and flowers, and how to make a more peaceful world. Jeanne taught me to observe more carefully, listen more intently. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a vast repertoire of silly songs. She lives for me in her poems, which speak to my inner being and that I share with others who always love them. Jeanne was a fierce fighter for what she believed and equally strong in her love for and pride in her family. She was a good and loyal friend. She lived a life worth celebrating. My sympathy to the family.
