Obituary of Floyd George Getchell

Floyd Getchell, 70, passed away October 15, 2014, at home in Yelm, Washington, surrounded by love. He was born October 12, 1944 to Horace and Thelma Getchell in Calais, Maine. An Olympia/Lacey/Yelm resident for 40 years, he also lived in Marshfield, Maine; Wyoming; and Texas. He was a 1962 graduate of North Thurston High School. Floyd married Ruth E. Arnott on August 14, 1964, in Tenino and they celebrated their 50th year union with family and friends this summer. Floyd worked for the Department of Natural Resources, Weyerhaeuser, St. Regis, and Continental Can Co./Crown Cork and Seal, where he held manufacturing positions, entering management in 1970 where he had increasing responsibilities. He spent the last 11 years as plant manager in Worland, Wyoming, and Abilene, Texas. While working at Crown Cork and Seal, he made many long lasting friendships. When not working, he enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing, and especially hunting with his camp partners. He particularly loved celebrating Christmas. Floyd is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth; son, Floyd Getchell, Jr.; and grandchildren, James and wife Lillian, Marcus, David; “great-grandson,” Jacob; niece, Cecilia Getchell, and her wife, Shawn. He was predeceased by his parents, Horace and Thelma; stepmother, Annie; son, Ernest; brothers, “Skip” and John; and uncles, Howard and George. Floyd will be deeply missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
