Steve and I first met when we were around 5 or 6 years old. We went through cub scouts and sea explores together and spent lots of time on the waters of Puget Sound together.I worked with Steve at his dad’s service stations from the time I was 13 ’til the end of high school, and Steve and I learned so much from his dad about the mechanics of cars. Over the years, we have always kept in touch with each other no matter where we were. I suprised him when he was in the Navy. He didnt know I had enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii. When his ship came in to Pearl Harbor, I was standing on the pier trying to spot him amongst all the sailors. I couldn’t miss Steve’s distinctive look! We had a great time for a couple of weeks till he shipped out again. Steve and I have had many adventures together through the years. I will miss him very much, and he will always be in my thoughts. Rest in Peace, My Friend!!!

Thank you all as you’ve made me smile with your memories of Steve. Sandra, you can only imagine that same windy cliff-side, speeding driver, bus ride scenario, this time outside Puerto Vallarta sitting near a local guy with a milk jug full of gasoline and a rag stuffed in as a cap. Steve wasn’t sure whether to be more afraid of the injuries he’d get from rolling down the cliff, or from the fireball he’d become. He wasn’t afraid of much, but definitely of bus drivers. I’ve had a wild ride with Steve in more ways than one. I’ll always miss him.

I first met Steve on a van going up the curvy road to Virginia City, NV in the early eighties. I was with my Mom and we laughed at his antics. He was sure the bus was going to roll over the side of the cliff, he screamed to high heaven and hid his face in his hands when he thought for sure we were doomed.. When the van got too close to the side of the road he’d scoot over to try and keep the bus on the pavement with his weight. When the bus did the same thing at the next corner, Steve would come flying over and hang onto the seat for dear life. Mom and I always laughed when we talked about that scared crazy guy. About two months later I went to work for Thurston County and there was Steve – the crazy guy on the van up to Virginia City. I asked if he remember that trip and a Mom and daughter laughing at him going crazy in the van. He said how could he forget when I told him it was us. It was a fun time to remember. Steve – you are still that crazy guy and I will always remember you and how much you love Kathy and your son. Makes me thoughtful that you are gone but I will always remember our political banter, getting our pilots’ licenses (you aced yours) and drinking a few brews with you. Rest in peace, my friend. You’ll have the best seat up there to watch the Seahawks win. S.

Steve was a wonderful person and the best older brother anyone could have. Growing up, he took time to teach me so many things like how to ride my 1st 2-wheeled bike, how to swim and later how to water ski. He was committed to our environment all his life without being a fanatic about it. I will miss him so much.

I remember the years of river floats down the Yakima River. Steve always made me laugh. The “beer in hand” is the way I will remember him! My thoughts are with you, Kathy. He will be missed.

I knew Steve is the 1970-80’s. Our families enjoyed both jeeping and boating. He was an awesome person and really enjoyed camping and the outdoors. Will miss him.
