Obituary of Ronald Allen Durkin

Ronald Durkin was born July 2, 1970 in Shelton, Washington, and passed away August 28, 2014 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington, from complications associated with a stroke. He was 44 years old. Ron and his family moved to Tumwater, Washington, in 1979 where Ron attended Michael T. Simmons and Black Hills Elementary schools, and graduated from Tumwater High School in 1989. After high school, Ron attended community college in Mt. Vernon and then chose to be a commercial electrician. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 76 and also worked for private electrical companies. Ron lived a full and active life. He started riding motorcycles at a very young age with his dad, brother and uncle. He was a member of the Northwest Motorcycle Associate (NMA) and Puget Sound Enduro Riders. He had a passion for motorcycle racing and was a gifted rider, holding many NMA motorcycle titles. Ron is survived by his parents, Rick and Kathi Durkin of Tenino; grandmother, Lillian (Dale) Settle of Shelton; brother, Jeff (Christie) Durkin of Olympia; sister, Altena (Rolland) Bailey of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; niece, Peyton Durkin of Olympia; three nephews, Ryder Durkin of Olympia, Nick (Alyssa) Bailey and Brandon Bailey of Spanaway; and aunts and uncles, Rob Durkin, Karen Mackay, Robbi Brosman, and Melanie Sattler. Ron spent a lot of his time with family, had many friends, and will be missed by all. The family would like to express thanks to the staff at St. Peter Hospital for the care Ron received, and to friend, Julie Chace, who spent many hours with Ron at the hospital.
