Obituary of Lois Daly DeYoung

Lois Daly DeYoung passed away February 5, 2014 in her home at Panorama, Lacey, Washington. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; their son, Mike, his wife, Michelle, and two grandchildren, Nick and Richard, of Renton, Washington; their daughter, Kristi, her husband, James, and two grandchildren, Kellen and Laurel, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; two brothers, Tom Daly, and his wife, Earline, of Colville, Washington, and Jim Daly, and his partner, Bertha Martinez, of Spring Valley, California; and Dorothy Moore and her husband, Dave, of Black Canyon City, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Effie May Daly; and her sister, Mary Jo Daly DeYoung. Lois was born on December 20, 1944 in Seattle, Washington, and grew up on a small farm in the Rose Hill community east of Kirkland. She graduated from Lake Washington High School in 1963 as an honors graduate, was the senior class secretary, and a co-editor of the school newspaper. Lois and Jim were married on June 12, 1965 in the Rose Hill Presbyterian Church. Their first home was in Bremerton, Washington. Lois attended Olympic Community College and earned an Associate Arts degree and certificate in Early Childhood Education in 1976. The family made several moves because of her husband’s job requirements. She was involved in local associations that were active in Early Childhood Education organizations in the respective communities as an early childhood teacher, a teacher trainer, and curriculum development coordinator from 1976 until 1988. At that time, she moved from an education career to the marketing of educational toys and supplies in retail sales. Lois and Jim settled in DuPont, Washington, in 1998 and she began working at the Olympia toy store, Wind Up Here, where she was floor manager and sales associate until her retirement in November 2013. Lois enjoyed working with the staff and especially meeting and watching the young children grow into active and curious adults. During her life, Lois’ primary interests and hobbies were her four grandchildren, reading, gardening, genealogy, and Christmas. She enjoyed traveling with Jim throughout the United States and Europe, with a special interest in Ireland where her heritage was of a special interest. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Providence SoundHomeCare and Hospice (3432 S. Bay Rd. NE, Olympia, WA 98506), the Kissane Sheep Farm (Moll’s Gap, Kenmare Co., Ireland; info@adopt-a-sheep.ie) or your favorite charity.
